Raw mango rice/maamidikaya pulihora is a South Indian delicacy. There are many dishes with raw mangoes like chutnies,dal, pickles,jams and many more. But this recipe is a quick to go one. One can prepare in few minutes and it doesn’t need any side dish, it’s filling and complete dish in it’s own way! Raw mango, rice and seasoning ingredients that’s is almost like pulihora recipe but not complicated procedure like tamarind rice . To know more about it Let’s hop in to the recipe.

✓ Raw mangoes contain an acid which helps ease digestion and control constipation. They are also rich in vitamin’C’ & vitamin’E’ Mangoes also help in the fight against diabetes by reducing sugar levels in the body.


Cooked rice- 2 cups

Raw mango- 1 cup grated (peeled)

Green chillies- 4 (sliced)

Red chillies – 4

Urad Dal- 1 tsp

Chana Dal- 1 tsp

Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp

Asafoetida a pinch

Turmeric – 1/4 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil – 1 tbsp

Ground nuts- 2 tbsp


1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan add ginger pieces, urad Dal,chana Dal, ground nuts, green chillies,cumin, mustard,red chillies one by one. Next add curry leaves and asafoetida.

2. Now add grated mango fry for a minute and switch off the flame.

3. Add turmeric and salt.

4. To this add cooked rice and stirr well until the seasoning and rice mixes well.

5. Mango rice is ready to serve.
